Windies picks ‘Mountain Man’ Rahkeem for Test series

NEW DELHI: West Indies have named 26-year-old all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall in the 13-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against India.

The first Test begins from August 22.

But Cornwall caught the eye when he was impressive against the Indian side back in 2017 in a tour game. He is also, perhaps, the heaviest cricketer ever as he stands at a towering height of 6’6” and weighs around 140 kg (if he plays for WI, he will be the heaviest cricketer ever to play international cricket).

Cornwall has been rewarded for his impressive record for Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the West Indies Championship and West Indies 'A', since making his first-class debut just under five years ago. He has picked 260 wickets at 23.90 apiece in 55 first-class matches, and also averages above 24 with one hundred and 13 fifties to his credit.

“Rahkeem has been performing consistently over a long period of time and has proven to be a match-winner, so we believe his elevation to the Test squad is merited at this time,” said Robert Haynes, the head of the interim selection panel of Cricket West Indies.

Test Schedule:

Aug 22-26: 1st Test at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua.
Aug 30- Sep 3: 2nd Test at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica.
