Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia): Official ambassador Tim Cahill is excited with Qatar’s progress ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, following the official unveiling of the Education City Stadium.
The Education City Stadium, with a capacity of 40,000, is set to host matches up to the quarter-finals and former Australia international Cahill said the tournament-ready venue is positive news amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Education City Stadium – one of eight that will be used for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 – is situated amidst several universities at the Qatar Foundation’s Education City.
“So far, so good,” said Cahill, whose playing career took him to the United States, Australia, England, India and China PR.
“Everything is above schedule and on time. When you have the third stadium completed and 80 percent completed on the other stadiums with its infrastructure in place, it’s really positive that Qatar can keep to that schedule. At the same time, it’s impressive that it hasn’t been affected.”
“Like anything, the show must go on. This is the biggest tournament in the world. Even with this pandemic, it’s exciting that we can look forward to the project of football. Football, and every sport in the world, brings people back together,” said Cahill to Star Sports India.
“We have to focus on the positives, of making sure we’re showing these stadiums and their completion rates, and that there’s no stutter in the whole infrastructure.”
Along with the likes of Xavi, Samuel Eto’o, Cafu and various other local and regional legends, Cahill is a programme ambassador for the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) that seeks to use opportunities provided by Qatar 2022 to create a lasting social change across the region and around the globe.
