DOHA: The Qatar Golf Association (QGA) will host the third leg of 2023 Asian Tour and second leg of the Asian Tour’s International Series at the Doha Golf Club (DGC) from February 16 to 19, the organisers said at a press conference on Monday.
The inaugural $2.5 million International Series Qatar at the Doha Golf Club will be held for the first time in Qatar.
It will feature 132 top professional golfers.
The International Series Qatar is part of the ground-breaking Asian Tour International Series, which was launched last year.
QGA Secretary General Fahad Nasser Al Naimi thanked Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and all officials for their support.
Al Naimi said the Asian Tour is one of the prestigious events and will attract some of the top professionals of the game.
“This tournament is one of the top events. By hosting it, the International Series Qatar will help promote Qatar as a tourist destination.
He called upon golf lovers to “come and enjoy the atmosphere of the tournament”, during the Asian Tour’s International Series.
David Rollo, CEO of Asian Tour, was delighted that Qatar was hosting the biggest leg of the Asian Tour’s International Series.
“We are very happy to hold one of the Asian Tour rounds in Qatar for the first time. In the last one decade, Qatar has hosted and organised some of the world’s major international sports events including the impressive successful organisation of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,” Rollo said. “I hope this tournament is held annually in Qatar.”
