DOHA (Qatar): Qatar aims to field a ‘formidable’ fencing team for the 2030 Asian Games in Doha, a top official of the Qatar Weightlifting & Fencing Federation (QWFF) said on Wednesday.
“We are working together to build a formidable team that will proudly represent Qatar at the Asian Games in 2030,” said QWFF General Secretary Khalid Issa Al Hamadi.
Al Hamadi was speaking at the agreement signing ceremony between the QWFF and the Aspire Academy signed ahead of the FIE Grand Prix Doha which will take from March 26 to 28 at Aspire Dome.
“We are partners in progress towards the development of fencing in Qatar, and we look forward to a continued fruitful relationship,” Al Hamadi said.
He said the FIE Grand Prix Doha will help in developing and getting Qatqri fencers ready for the 2030 continental event.
“This competition (FIE Grand Prix Doha) will further help in this regard. We would like to appreciate the Aspire Academy for their continuous support to the federation and the annual Qatar Grand Prix in particular. Aspire is our main and strategic partner for this tournament,” Al Hamadi said.
Deputy Director General at Aspire Academy Ali Salem Afifa and other officials from the federations and the Aspire Academy were also present for the signing ceremony.
“The cooperation between QWFF and Aspire Academy has been on for a very long time, and we count it a privilege to be associated with the development of fencing in Qatar. Aspire Academy is one of the best globally, and we are happy to partner with the federation in training and developing the athletes and staff. We want to thank QWFF president Mr Mohammed Yousef Al Mana, the federation president, for his immeasurable support,” Afifa said.
