DOHA (Qatar): Qatar University (QU) has signed a large spectrum cooperation agreement with the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) on Monday.
The SIGA University Network aims to ensure Sport Integrity becomes a key component of the University Curriculum, including, by means of example, via the development of Integrity-related Executive Education Courses.
SIGA has also announced that QU will host SUN’s inaugural meeting on Thursday, July 2, 2020. This event will work towards solidifying the SUN Research Agenda 2020/2021 by exploring new collaborative initiatives to add to current SIGA Thought Leadership Projects.
“Qatar University and the SIGA both share the common belief that sports is a valuable component of society and we are looking forward to working with them to exchange knowledge, promote positive sport values, including sport ethics, integrity and transparency,” said QU President Dr. Hassan Rashid Al Derham.
“Through this agreement, both parties will add value to the work Qatar University has been doing in the field of sports and focus on providing sports opportunities and encouragement for youth. This is in line with the vision of the country towards building an active, healthy sports culture for the whole community.”
Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the SIGA and Chairman of the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) Mohammed bin Hanzab expressed his pride that Qatar University was the first academic partner of SIGA in the region to promote the university’s well-known position in the field of scientific research and expand in new areas to include sport integrity and fighting corruption in sport.
He expressed his delight that a reputable university with expertise and capabilities in a tremendous academic heritage has joined the SIGA University Network in a way that adds value to the research work of this network in the field of sport integrity.
CEO of SIGA Dr. Emanuel Medeiros welcomed Qatar University into the fold, adding that the QU is a world-renowned hub of productivity, engagement and academic excellence.
