DOHA (Qatar): Al Duhail reached an agreement with the Croatian professional Mario Mandzukic to end the contract by mutual consent after the period he spent with the team.
There were suggestions the Croatia international striker would be coming back to Serie A after his Juventus experience, joining Pippo Inzaghi’s Benevento following promotion.
Milan had already shown interest in Mandzukic before his move to Qatar and he’d be a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic next term.
This afternoon, the 34-year-old announced he is a free agent, just seven months after signing for Al-Duhail.
“I reached an agreement with Al-Duhail management to terminate my contract by mutual consent,” wrote Mandzukic on Twitter.
“I appreciate the trust and hospitality that I have received in Qatar and I wish the best to the club and the team in future.”
Mandzukic wore the Juventus jersey from 2015 to January 2020, scoring 44 goals in 162 competitive games for the club.
Benevento have already secured Loic Remy as a free agent from Lille and are targeting Mandzukic to bring even more experience and firepower to the side.
