KARACHI (Pakistan): Former Pakistan bowling coach Azhar Mahmood has joined England’s coaching staff ahead of the three-match T20I series, which starts from August 28 in Manchester.
Azhar, 45, will join the English squad as Assistant Bowling coach for the series.
“Jon Lewis will be the bowling coach and is supported by former Pakistan international and bowling coach Azhar Mahmood,” said the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) while announcing squad and coaching staff for the upcoming series.
The all-rounder has represented Pakistan in 143 ODIs and 21 Test matches and was Pakistan’s bowling coach from 2016 to 2019 with Mickey Arthur as the head coach of the team.
He was also Surrey’s player-coach before appointment with the Pakistan team.
Azhar is not the first Pakistani to be working in the coaching staff of the English cricket team. In the past, Saqlain Mushtaq and Mushtaq Ahmed have also worked in the coaching staff for England’s team.
