DOHA (Qatar): Qatar’s Syed Azlan Amjad advanced to the PSA Challenger Tour after he won his first-ever title last week at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex.
Amjad defeated Abdulrahman Al Malki in straight games in the final and took only 27 minutes to win 11-3, 11-4, 11-4 against the No.4 seed after having already beaten the No.6 and No.8 seeds en route to the final.
In this Challenger Tour event, which was held for Qatari-based players only due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 24-year-old was untroubled throughout, winning the tournament without dropping a game across his four matches.
Amjad has fond memories of the venue, as he was a wildcard at the 2019 PSA Men’s World Championship at the same venue.
The Qatari No.2, who reached the second round of the Worlds last year, will enter into PSA Platinum Qatar Classic on November 1 as a wildcard.
He will be hoping to emulate his run from the World Championships at the same venue a year ago.
