DOHA (Qatar): Golf is witnessing an upward swing in the country thanks to the coaching programs planned by the Qatar Golf Association (QGA).
The QGA has been grooming several juniors for the big leap on the world stage, according to Qatar national team chief coach Hassan Benrokiya.
“I would like to thank QGA for focusing on a junior program. We have a very talented group. I think they will be ready to compete. Hopefully, Qatar will have a top player soon. My dream is to see one Qatari golfer playing at a high level and playing in some of the top events of the world,” Hassan told KHEL UPDATES at the Doha Golf Course practice range on Wednesday.
He added that a lot of promising players are coming through the ranks after they receive training under QGA coaching program.
“We have a lot of talented players. We would like them to do well on the Asian and European Tour,” Hassan said .
Some of the Qatari golfers have already brushed shoulders with some of the top players at the Qatar Masters European Tour.
Next year’s edition will take place between March 11-14, 2021.
“Jaham Jassim Al Kuwari, Ali Abdulla Al Shahrani, Saleh Ali Al Kaabi and Abdulrahman Abdulla Al Shahrani are ready to turn professional. We will wait for the right and the perfect moment to push them to turn pro,” he added.
Hassan said Qatari players have gained in confidence after taking part in the European Tour event, which is hosted by QGA annually.
“We always try to give our best player a wild card entry into the Qatar Masters. This is a very good opportunity for them to compete with the best. They have the level to compete and Insha Allah they’ll get good results in the coming years,” he added.
