DOHA (Qatar): Asian champions Qatar are drawn with United Arab Emirates (UAE), Yemen and Iraq in Group A of the 24th Gulf Cup football tournament.
The competition will be held here from November 24 to December 6
Defending champions Oman are in Group B with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain, who had previously decided not to take part in the event.
It must be mentioned here that Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bahrain had “withdrawn” from the Qatar-hosted tournament in 2017, amid a deepening political crisis in the region.
The regional event was later moved to Kuwait two years ago.
Usually played every two years, the Gulf Cup was originally meant to be hosted by Kuwait in 2016 but was moved to Qatar because of the FIFA ban.
Three-time winners Qatar are aiming to win their second title in 2019 following their AFC Asian Cup triumph earlier this year.
The matches will be played at Khalifa International Stadium, one of the 2022 FIFA World Cup venues.
