DOHA: Australia made an ideal start to their AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar campaign, powering to a comprehensive 3-0 win over China at Khalifa International Stadium on Thursday.
Goals from Awer Mabil and Martin Boyle gave Graham Arnold’s side a handsome two-goal lead at the interval before substitute Mitch Duke added a third with 20 minutes remaining.
The win sends Australia to the top of Group B, with a top two finish required to send them to a fifth consecutive FIFA World Cup.
Australia will have the opportunity to build on their strong start when they meet Vietnam in Hanoi on Tuesday while China will remain in Doha for what looms as a crucial clash against Japan. (Source: AFC)
