DOHA (Qatar): Veteran Oman goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi has been named one of the ambassadors for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
“It’s my pleasure and honour to be chosen as an ambassador for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup,” said Ali Al Habsi. “I am pleased and happy to represent my country Oman and all Arab athletes.”
Al Habsi is one of the few players from the Middle East who plays in the English league.
The 37-year-old currently plays for West Bromwich Albion, and is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers from the Arab region.
Ex-Egypt international Wael Gomaa has also been chosen as World Cup ambassador.
“I’m glad and happy to be selected as one of the ambassadors. I wish the organisers good luck on hosting the Arab world’s first World Cup ,” said Gomaa.
The World Cup will be held in Qatar in November, 2022.
