CALCUTTA (India): India’s opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of T20I series against West Indies, the BCCI said in a statement on Wednesday.
Dhawan suffered a deep cut on his left knee during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Maharashtra.
The BCCI medical team assessed him on Tuesday, and suggested that the batsman needed time to recover from the injury.
BCCI named Sanju Samson as Dhawan’s replacement.
Samson earned a T20I call-up for the 3-match T20I series against Bangladesh, but did not make it to the playing XI.
The 25-year-old initially was not named in the India squad for Windies series.
In another injury news, wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha underwent a surgery in Mumbai on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old sustained a fracture on his right ring finger during the recently concluded Pink ball Test against Bangladesh. Saha will rehabilitate at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
