ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan will be among the 32 world leaders who will attend the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has confirmed Khan’s decision to participate in the ceremony, scheduled to be held on February 4, after receiving an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Several nations have joined a United States-led diplomatic boycott of the Games, citing concerns over China’s human rights record.
However, Khan, who is a legendary former cricketer of his country, has chosen not to join those countries who are refusing to send politicians to this year’s Winter Olympics.
The multi-sport event is scheduled will be held until 20 February in Beijing and venues near the neighboring towns of Yanqing and Chongli in China.
