DOHA: America’s Jessica Pegula on Sunday evening qualified for the second round of WTA Qatar Open at the Khalifa International Complex.
Pegula, ranked 14th in the world, overcame Czech Republic’s Katerina Sinyakova, ranked 45th in the world, 6-3, 6-2 in one hour eight minutes.
Pegula will meet Slovenian Kaja Govan on Wednesday in the second round. Govan beat Swiss Stephanie Vogli 6-4, 6-2.
In another match, Croatia’s Anna Kongo also advanced by beating Ukrainian opponent Marta Kostyuk 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
