AAQ to host quarterly tournaments in association with Qatar Badminton Association
DOHA: The Association of Badminton Academies in Qatar (AAQ) in association Qatar Badminton Association (QBA) will host quarterly junior tournaments in a bid to give more exposure to young players ahead of the 2030 Doha Asian Games.
Besides, ranking system tournament for junior and senior players was also introduced.
“We will be conducting several tournaments in future in Association with Qatar Badminton Association. We will shortly release our tournament calendar. After the Ramadan month, we will be conducting a full fledge tournament for both Seniors and Juniors. Thereafter, we will host a Junior GCC Open Tournament in May. Every quarter we will have junior ranking tournament under the Apex body in association with Qatar Badminton Association,” AAQ President Pawan Kumar.
Pawan said the apex body for badminton academies in Qatar has set a road map for the game in cooperation with QBA.
“QBA has come forward to work with us jointly to develop badminton in Qatar. I believe this is a great beginning for badminton in Qatar with QBA on board. This tournament is the First Ranking Badminton Tournament for Junior Category,” he added.
Radi Najeeb, Prakriti Bharath, Pridhav Shyam Gopan, Anusree Shine and Nevaeh Serah Arun excelled in the tournament held at Palestine School.
The five walked away with the best performance award as they won in three possible categories in the thee-day event held in six age-group categories, U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19, for both boys and girls.
Radi won the U-19 Mixed Doubles, U-19 Boys Singles and U-19 Boys Doubles titles while Prakriti topped in the U-19 Mixed Doubles, U-19 Girls Singles and U-17 Girls Singles.
Pridhav took the number one spot in the U-17 Boys Doubles, U-17 Boys Singles and U-15 Boys Singles categories while Anusree walked away with the U-15 Girls Doubles, U-15 Girls Singles and U-13 Girls Singles titles.
Nevaeh excelled in the U-11 Girls Singles, U-11 Girls Doubles and U-9 Girls Singles categories to clinch the top spot.
Players from all leading academies in Qatar like Prime Sports Center, Absolute Sports Academy, Green Stadium, Masters Academy, Dynamic Sports, YAAS Qatar, Feathers Academy Al Khor participated in the tournament.
Among the distinguished guests who attended the tournament included, Safeer – Badminton Head , Indian Sports Center, an apex body for Indian sports operating under the aegis of Indian Embassy Qatar, A.P Manikandan – Former Indian Cultural Centre president, Vinod Nair – Indian Community Benevolent Fund (IBF) Vice President, Yaver Ali – Head Volleyball, at Indian Sports center, Hameed – Principal MES International School, Shanavas Bava – KBF president , Nihad Ali – Qatar Indian Association General Secretary.
The event was held in 26 categories witnessed 270 matches and saw the participation of more than 125 players from various leading academies in Qatar.
