NEW DELHI: Football Delhi (FD), the parent body of the sport in India’s capital city, at its Executive Committee meeting last Saturday passed an unanimous resolution to make the association more transparent.
The decision by an affiliated unit of All India Football Federation (AIFF) comes close on the heels of the recent Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators that took over the functioning of the national body.
The Comptroller and Auditor General of India also constituted a team to conduct an audit of AIFF accounts for the last four financial years for alleged financial irregularities.
“A partner or sponsor who funds Football Delhi activities with an annual sponsorship value of 35 lakh or above will have the option to audit the accounts of Football Delhi for that particular financial year,” Football Delhi press release said.
The Supreme Court removed AIFF ex-president Praful Patel and his executive committee from power after the former continued to remain in office though his term officially ended in 2020.
FD’s decision is a significant one considering AIFF’s refusal to adhere to the norms laid out in the National Sports Code.
“It’s a significant step towards bringing in highest transparency in the functioning of the Association,” said Shaji Prabhakaran, FD President. “Association should be like an open book and we at Football Delhi would like to take the lead role in putting the best practices.”
