HARARE: Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan hit unbeaten half-centuries as India cruised to a 10-wicket win over Zimbabwe in first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series on Thursday.
Opting to bowl, Deepak Chahar, who returned to action after nearly six months, took 3 for 27, while fellow pacers Prasidh Krishna (3/50) and Mohammed Siraj (1/36) were also among wickets to bowl out Zimbabwe for 189.
“There was a bit of swing and seam movement, but it was good to see the bowlers stay disciplined and pick up those wickets. For a few of us, it is great to be back in the Indian dressing room. As a team, we have been in good form, good to see that all of us are getting enough game time. Feels good to be out there,” said India captain KL Rahul.
Prasidh Krishna and Axar Patel scalped three wickets each and made sure that the Zimbabwe team was restricted to a meager score of 189.
Thereafter, It was the Indian openers who took care of the rest. The duo managed to chase down the total in just over 30 overs with Gill and Dhawan getting 82* and 81* respectively.
Another dominating win for Team India which also happens to be the 13th consecutive win against Zimbabwe.
“The landing was a little hard and when you play a international game after six and half months, obviously you will be a little nervous. Before coming here I played at least 4-5 practice games and the body and mind wasn’t working together in the first few overs, but it got better after that. I’m fine and the body is fine as well,” said Chahar, who was adjudged Man of the Match.
