KARACHI: Hosts Pakistan beat New Zealand on Wednesday night by 26 runs to wrap up the 5-match ODI series by taking a 3-0 here at the National Stadium.
It was a comfortable victory for Pakistan though, it did not seem to be the case when New Zealand’s openers looked strong.
But once Young went back due to some brilliant fielding, Pakistan established a foothold while their spinners bowled superbly to built pressure on the Kiwis.
Earlier, Pakistan made 287 all out thanks to Imam ul Haq’s 90 and captain Babar Azam’s 54.
Babar and Imam have statistically been Pakistan’s most prolific pair in the past four years. They accumulated 107 runs for that second wicket.
New Zealand finally won a toss, and Tom Latham put Pakistan in.
Pakistan were more sedate than during a chase and New Zealand’s early discipline with the ball dominated them.
The first five overs produced just 12 runs while Fakhar Zaman tried to force the issue thereafter, a Henry short ball got the better of him cheaply.
Brief Scores: Pakistan 287 for 6 beat New Zealand 261 all out
