DOHA: India’s star athlete and reigning Olympic champion in javelin Neeraj Chopra exuded confidence ahead of the Doha Diamond League here tomorrow.
Chopra, who bagged a World Championship silver last year, came agonisingly close to breaching the 90m mark and ended the year by becoming the first Indian to win a Diamond League title in Zurich.
The Olympic champion said at a press conference today that ‘Doha is famous for 90m throws’.
The field at the elite meet will feature the best.
Granada’s two-time World Champion Anderson Peters will be among the favourites to win. It also features the seasoned throwers like former World Champion and 2016 Olympic silver medallist Julius Yego and 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott.
“The most important thing is that Doha is famous for 90m throws and hopefully, tomorrow will be a great result for all,” said Chopra, who hinted that a big throw might be up his sleeve.
The 2023 Wanda Diamond League will get underway with some of the world’s biggest track and field stars including several world and Olympic champions like Qatar’s own Olympic high jump champion Mutaz Barshim and 100m world champion Fred Kerley.
