IMPHAL (India): Neroca overcame Aizawl FC 1-0 in season’s first Northeast derby at the I-League on Friday.
Ousmane Diawara scored the all important goal in the 28th minute.
Aizawl, who dominated the possession, failed to convert any of their 15 shots in the match.
The first major chance came in the 13th minute for the hosts, but Chanso Horam failed to convert. Neroca gradually grew in confidence after Khaiminthang Lhungdim side-netted his shot in the 22nd.
Neroca shot into the lead after Diawara banged home a rebound of Zodingliana shot that hit the goal post.
In the dying minutes, Aizawl made some advances down the right flank with Isak Vanlalruatfela channelising all the moves.
Neroca came close to increase the lead, but Chanso Horam shot deflected off of Aizawl defender.
Neroca captain, and goalkeeper Marvin Devon Phillip walked away with Man of the Match award.
