Munich: Julian Nagelsmann, the head coach of Germany’s men’s football team, announced on Monday that Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich will be the new captain of the national team. Kimmich, 29, succeeds Ilkay Gundogan, who retired from international football following Germany’s Euro 2024 campaign.
Nagelsmann praised Kimmich as a “role model for the whole group,” highlighting his relentless drive and commitment. “He always gives his all, he always wants to train—sometimes too much—he is never tired, he always wants to win,” Nagelsmann said during a press conference ahead of Germany’s upcoming Nations League match against Hungary in Duesseldorf.
