ASTANA, Kazakhstan – After nearly a decade of waiting, Qatar has officially punched its ticket to the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 with a dominant 92-71 victory over Kazakhstan on Friday night at the Jekpe-Jek Saraiy.
The Gulf nation seized control early and pulled away decisively in the second quarter, never relinquishing their lead as they secured their long-awaited return to the prestigious continental tournament.
This marks Qatar’s first qualification since the 2017 edition in Lebanon, where they finished 13th out of 16 teams in a competition ultimately won by debutants Australia.
Now set for their 11th FIBA Asia Cup appearance, Qatar will look to make waves in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as they continue their preparations for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup, which they will host.
