DOHA: Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova has withdrawn from next month’s Indian Wells and Miami tournaments due to a lingering back injury that has sidelined her since November.
The world No. 16, who claimed a surprise victory at Wimbledon last year, sustained the injury during the Tour’s Asian swing and struggled with it at the WTA Finals in Riyadh, where she reached the semi-finals. The 29-year-old Czech also skipped January’s Australian Open, citing the need for more recovery time.
With Krejcikova out, Austria’s Julia Grabher will take her place in the Indian Wells main draw when the tournament begins on March 5. The Miami Open follows on March 18.
