VADODARA (India): Indian women’s team clinched a nail-biter against South Africa by six runs to win the home series 3-0.
Disciplined bowling performances by Ekta Bisht (3/32), Deepti Sharma (2/24), and Rajeshwari Gayakwad (2/22) helped the hosts overcome the tourists.
Chosing to bat first, India captain Mithali Raj saw her team in trouble after Shabnim Ismail (2/18) and Marizanne Kapp (3/20) struck in their first overs to leave the hosts reeling at 5/2.
Raj and Punam Raut came together and negotiated the first Powerplay without further damage. Soon after though, first-change bowler Ayabonga Khaka bowled Raut for 15.
India fell further into the mire as Sharma (7) and Tanyia Bhatia (6) were both sent packing before they could construct a sizeable partnership.
