DOHA (Qatar): The Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) Hassan Al Thawadi has described the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar as a ‘unique event’.
“In 2025 or 2026, I want us to be able to point at individuals, families, companies, enterprises who are able to say ‘as a result of the World Cup, this is where I am today,” said Al Thawadi at the Global Security Forum here.
He covered a range of Qatar 2022 subjects, including the impact of the blockade on preparations, workers’ welfare reforms in Qatar.
He also said how the tournament provides opportunity to deliver a social and economic legacy across the Middle East.
“These are the people that are being employed within my company because of this World Cup; this is our contribution to the region’s development,” added Al Thawadi.
During the two-day conference, a wide range of leaders, experts, practitioners and policy-makers from government, academia, media, entertainment, international organisations and the humanitarian sector convened to discuss and offer solutions.
