PARIS (France): Former two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso confirmed he will drive for Toyota in the 2020 Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia.
“So now it’s official! I will be on the next @dakar with the legend @marc_coma and Toyota Gazoo Racing! This is a big challenge! Let’s do it!,” tweeted Alonso.
Since retiring from Formula One last year, the Spaniard has won for a second time at the Le Mans 24-Hours race with Toyota and triumphed in the World Endurance Championship.
Alonso has been involved in a programme of testing and preparation for rallying. He took part in the Morocco Rally earlier this month, finishing 27th.
He is also seeking to win at the Indianapolis 500 to seal a memorable “triple crown” in motor racing made up of victories at the Monaco Grand Prix, Le Mans and Indy.
