PANJIM (Goa): Indian Super League side FC Goa has left out foreigners Igor Angulo and Alberto Noguera for the AFC Champions League playoff.
According to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) rule, a club can register only four overseas players including one from Asia.
The Gaurs, who won the ISL in 2019-2020 season, will begin their historic maiden voyage into continental club competition on April 14, when they take on Qatar’s Al Rayyan in Group E which also features Iran’s Persepolis FC and Al Wahda of UAE.
The Goan side had six foreign players this season in the ISL, but due to the 3+1 rule on foreigners coach Juan Ferrando will now have a difficult choice to make.
Ferrando has decided to strengthen the defence with Ivan Gonzalez getting the nod. He will partner Australian centre-back James Donachie.
Spanish winger Jorge Ortiz and captain Edu Bedia completes the foreign quartet.
The Goan club will become the first-ever club from the country to feature in the top club competition in Asia.
