CALCUTTA (India): India ended their AFC U19 Championship 2020 campaign with three defeats in as many matches with 3-0 loss against Afghanistan in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday will put All India Football Federation in a spot of bother.
Afghanistan finished third in the group, but India found themselves at the bottom with no goals scored and nine conceded in what has been a difficult week for Pinto Floyd’s side.
Both sides were already eliminated following back to back defeats in their earlier matches.
But Afghanistan seized control in the opening five minutes with goals from Ahmad Shakib Ramaki and Ahmad Rabi Nawshad before Khatam Shir Del sealed points with a third goal after 29 minutes.
Having conceded four goals in the opening 28 minutes against Saudi Arabia on Friday, India were hopeful of an improved start.
However, Shakib opened the scoring after two minutes, and India found themselves behind again when Rabi doubled the lead two minutes later.
Shir Del’s goal just prior to half-hour mark extinguished any hope of Indian recovery.
Afghanistan were unable to add any further goals after half-time in a win which saw them leave Saudi Arabia with some reward for a week of admirable performances.
