DOHA (Qatar): Al Arabi overcame Al Sadd 87-75 on Wednesday evening to win the 21st Amir Cup for the second time in their tournament history.
Playing in their fifth overall final, Arabi started on a confident note to grab the first quarter 23-15. Sammy Monroe jr top-scored for them with 31 points followed by Khaled Roushdy Abdelbaset (24).
Arabi maintained their form but trailed Sadd in the second (18-23) with the latter showing some great fight-back courtesy Konstantinos, who scored 25 in the match.
However, Arabi came back strongly in the third with Monroe and Roushdy in brilliant form.
Sadd captain Babacar Dieng showed some resilience with his effort (30 points), but it wasn’t enough to stop their opponents who led 68-55 after the third quarter.
Eventually, they wrapped up the match with 23-19 in the fourth to dash Sadd’s hopes of a third crown.
Al Rayyan are the most successful team with nine titles in the 21-year history of the tournament.
