DOHA (Qatar): Al Sadd maintained top position on the table after they beat Salal 3-1 in the 7th round match of Qatar Stars League at the Al Gharafa Stadium on Friday.
Akram Afif (35th minute), Santi Cazorla (50th-minute penalty) and substitute Hassan Al Haidous (90+1) scored for Al Sadd, while Roosbeh Mohammed netted Umm Salal’s only goal in the 40th minute.
Al Sadd thus maintained the top position in the table with 19 points following their sixth victory. The Wolves also remained as the only unbeaten team so far in the tournament.
Umm Salal crashed to their fifth defeat and stood on four points.
Al Sadd, who dominated Umm Salal, were in full strength with the return of their players, mainly Qatar internationals, from country duty.
Akram put Al Sadd ahead after half an hour into the game, but Umm Salal drew level through Roosbeh before the break.
Rodrigo Tabata almost scored the second goal for Al Sadd in the last minute of first half with a powerful shot, but goalkeeper Baba Malick was on hand to make a save.
Al Duhail back on winning track
Defending champions Al Duhail were back on winning track after they defeated Al Kharaitiyat 4-1 at their home ground.
Almoez Ali (13th and 40th minutes), Ramin Rezaein (37th minute) and Khaled Mohammed (90+1) scored for Al Duhail. The Red Knights swelled their points tally to 12 with their fourth victory.
Khaldoun Ismail pulled one back for Al Kharaitiyat in the 55th minute. Al Kharaitiyat remained on six points following their fifth defeat.(Source: QSL)
