DOHA (Qatar): Al Sadd head coach Xavi Hernandez is eyeing a victory against Al Kharaitiyat as the 2020-21 Qatar Stars League kicks off on Thursday.
The match will be played at the Edcuation City Stadium.
“We are excited to be in the new season and ready to compete. We want to start perfectly and we know that we have a difficult match against Al Kharaitiyat, who are returning to the league this season,” said Xavi on Wednesday.
“They are a good team with distinguished professional players and a good coach in Yousef Adam.”
The Wolves go into the game in high spirits, as they look to kickstart the new season on a good note with their first three points.
The coaching staff held a meeting with the players prior to the start of Tuesday’s session, explaining the team’s objectives in the upcoming game, which is set to be a challenging one at the start of the campaign.
“We are targeting a good start, but as I previously mentioned, the league has developed a lot and we look at Al Kharaitiyat’s matches in the same way we look at those of Al Duhail.
“Our goal is three points and we want to win and play perfectly, especially since we are going through a good time. We got some rest and regained the services of some players who were on loan and they will support the team. We have hired new professional players who have the ability to win us matches,” added Xavi.
Meanwhile, Boualem Khoukhi returned to routine training after recovering from an injury that had kept him out of action for 10 days.
“We are talking about outstanding players (Santi Cazorla and Guilherme Torres) who played in Europe in the Spanish, English and Greek Leagues, and they will certainly help the team. I know Cazorla and Guilherme well and they have the potential to lead the team to victories. Of course, they will be a big plus because they are two special players,” said the former Barcelona star.
