DOHA (Qatar): Al Arabi beat Al Markhiya 2-0 in the first semifinal on Friday to enter Amir Cup final.
Aron (17 min) and Al Ansari (59 min) were the scorers for Arabi, who now await for the winners between Duhail SC and Al Sadd in the second semifinal tomorrow.
Al Markhiya coach Omar Naji had said on Thursday that his team had the ability to upset Al Arabi.
But that didn’t happen as Arabi played their game in style and advanced into the final.
“Reaching the Amir Cup semifinal was a very positive thing for us. We respect Al Arabi as it is a great team with well-known players,” said Naji.
Al Arabi coach Heimir Hallgrimsson praised his players for an outstanding victory.
“Our victory over Al Markhiya is deserved. We congratulate Al Markhiya for the performance and great spirit. I’m satisfied with my players. We could have scored more, but two goals were enough to win and qualify,” said the Icelandic.
Hallgrimsson acknowledged Arabi weren’t that good in the last quarter.
“I am happy with what the players presented, especially in terms of physicality, where everyone played with strength and great fighting spirit. This is what we needed before the match,” added the Icelandic.
