DOHA: Amanda Anisimova claimed the Qatar TotalEnergies Open 2025 title by defeating Jelena Ostapenko 6-4, 6-3, in the final at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex on Saturday.
The American secured victory in 1 hour and 20 minutes for her third career title.
The WTA 1000 event concluded with a prestigious award ceremony attended by HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development; HE Nasser bin Ghanim Al Khelaifi, President of Qatar Tennis, Squash, Badminton and Padel Federation; and Tournament Director Saad Al Mohannadi, who presented Anisimova with the golden falcon trophy and Ostapenko with the runner-up prize.
Ranked 41st in the world, Anisimova showcased an outstanding run in Doha, marking her first-ever Qatar Open final appearance.
She began her campaign with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over two-time Qatar champion Victoria Azarenka (2012, 2013) before defeating Spain’s Paula Badosa (6-4, 6-3) in the second round.
The American continued her dominance with a 6-3, 6-0 win over 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez in the third round.
Her toughest challenge came in the quarterfinals, where she battled past Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk (4-6, 7-5, 6-4) to secure a spot in her first-ever WTA 1000 semifinal. She then dispatched Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova (6-3, 6-3) to book her place in the final.
Ostapenko, the world No. 37, entered the final seeking her ninth career title.
The 2017 French Open champion reached her second Qatar Open final, having previously finished as runner-up in 2016 to Spain’s Carla Suárez Navarro.
