DOHA: Japan won the women’s team title at the Asian Table Tennis Championship at the Lusail Sports Hall on Friday to book their place for next year’s World Championship in China.
Japan beat South Korea 3-0 in the final.
The Japanese women did not drop a game in either the gold medal match or their semifinal against Hong Kong.
Minami Ando overcame Zhu Chengzhu 11-6, 9-11, 11-4, 14-16, 11-8 while Hina Hayata and Hitomi Sato enjoyed straight-games wins to send Japan to the final.
Ando beat Shin Yu-bin in four games in the final, Hayata likewise beat Jeon Ji-hee in four, and Miyu Nagasaki straight-games triumph over Lee Zion sealed the gold medal.
Meanwhile, Qatar men’s team finished 14th after losing play-off match to Jordan 1-3.
