DOHA (Qatar): In a bid to make the National Baja more competitive the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) will be making a few changes to the championship and launch a revised version of the same in January next year.
The new version will be called as the Qatar Off-Road Championship and is yet another step by QMMF to take the sports forward.
The championship will be a mix of Endurance and Baja.
Executive Director of QMMF Amro Al Hamad said: “The first round is going to be Endurance and the last round is going to be Baja. The points for Endurance and Baja will be accumulated for the final championship round.
“The sixth and final round will be an extended week of competition which will be held over two days. It will be longer Baja than usual. And it’s going to be the double points. This will keep it interesting for all the participants until the last round,” he added.
Al Hamad also revealed that the 2021 Qatar National Sprint Championship will start in January and will be held in the same
categories.
The QMMF will be meeting the contestants soon to find out if some ruled could be changed in order to attract more competitors.
The fifth and final round concluded at Losail International Circuit last Saturday 44 participants took part in six different categories of Open and Production Cars.
The hugely popular series, which had begun in January, was extended over the year following the forced ‘coronavirus pandemic’ break.
The event was held with all precautionary measures against COVID-19 as per the Ministry of Public health protocols.
