The 75-year-old is in coma and his family needs financial help in these lockdown days due the Covid-19 pandemic.
CALCUTTA (India): City-based sports management group Al Riyada Pvt Ltd has donated Rs. 10,000 to the family of the ailing, former international footballer Bir Bahadur on Wednesday.
In a statement released by the company, Riyada Director Mohammed Abidul Islam said, “It was pained to come to know about the sorry plight of Bahadur, who is now in coma, and hence decided to help him.”
Known for his tremendous burst and terrific control of the ball, Bahadur played for Services in the national football championship for Santosh Trophy till 1974.
The 75-year-old is in coma and his family needs financial help in these lockdown days due the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Riyada is happy to make a small contribution towards the medical expenses of our respected former Indian footballer Mr Bir Bahadur.
One of our goals is to help former Indian footballers gain some recognition and bring them back to public life by honouring them,” the statement added.
The former player stays with his wife Devika, sons Rohit and Vikram at his asbestos-roofed house in Doveton, Bolarum in Secunderabad.
Bir Bahadur came all the way from Dehradun to join the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) in Hyderabad.
It was around the same time athletics legend Milkha Singh was also enrolled at the centre. Bir Bahadur played for Services in the national football championship for Santosh Trophy till 1974.
