CALCUTTA (India): Sunil Chhetri was among the goals as Bengaluru FC beat Chennayin FC 3-0 to record their first win in the Indian Super League in Bangalore on Sunday.
Chhetri found the target in the 25th minute while Erik Paartalu (14’), and substitute Semboi Haokip (84’) were the other scorers.
Carles Cuadrat’s men put on quite the show to bag their first win of the season, and move to fifth position on the table with seven points after four games.
Setting up in a 4-2-3-1 with an Indian front-three that had Ashique Kuruniyan operating on the left in attack for the first time since joining the Blues, Chhetri moved to a central role.
Cuadrat welcomed the return of Paartalu, with Albert Serran missing out due to injury.
Paartalu’s return allowed Dimas Delgado and Raphael Augusto freedom in attack, as the Blues dominated.
Paartalu marked his 50th appearance for Bengaluru to head home Delgado’s take in the 14th minute.
The Blues had missed the Aussie in the opening three fixtures with an ankle injury, and Paartalu left an indelible impression of his presence.
Chhetri added the second goal half-volley to prick the confidence of Chennaiyin back line.
Semboi poked home through the legs of Vishal Kaith to make it 3-0.
Bengaluru will next face Kerala Blasters at home on November 23.
