DOHA: Defending champion Al Sadd halted Al Duhail’s pursuit of winning Qatar Stars League with a 3-1 win in the 21st round match of Qatar Stars League on Thursday.
Second-placed side, Al Arabi notched up a confident 3-0 win against Al Gharafa to remain in the title hunt.
The final round matches will be held on Monday.
Duhail will win the title in the event of a draw in their last game but if they lose against Al Shamal, Al Arabi stands a chance of reclaiming the league shield after 27 years.
However, Arabi needs to win against Al Sadd in their last round match.
In another match, Qatar Sports Club beat Al Ahli 2-0.
Iranian Shojae Khalilzadeh (own goal, 28th minute) and Javier Pastore (45th minute) scored the goals as Qatar SC moved on to 35 points and Al Ahli remained on 21 points.
Qatar SC naturally expected to keep winning that could take them into the top-four bracket.
The match started off strongly. Even though Al Ahli attacked, Qatar SC gradually began to take control of it and created opportunities, but missed them.
