DOHA (Qatar): The long-awaited 2019-20 Ooredoo Cup semifinals will be played on August 29, Qatar Stars League announced.
The last four-stage of the popular tournament originally planned to be held in March, got delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Al Rayyan will meet Al Arabi in the first semifinal while Al Ahli will play against Al Sadd in the second. Both matches will be played at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium with kick-off set for 16:00 and 19:00 respectively.
The date and the venue for the final have not yet been decided. Al Arabi beat Al Wakrah 1-0 in the first quarterfinal to make it to the semis with Pierre-Michelle Lasogga netting the winning goal.
Al Ahli entered the semis by knocking out two-time defending champions Al Gharafa following a goal by captain Nabil El Zhar. Al Sadd defeated Qatar SC in tie-breaker in the third quarter-final.
There was high drama in the last quarter-final before Al Rayyan edged Al Khor in sudden death (7-6) after the regular time ended 1-1 and tiebreaker ended 5-5.
Interestingly, the current QNB Stars League table-toppers Al Duhail failed to clear the group stage after finishing fifth in Group B with three points.
