MIAMI: Novak Djokovic moved within two wins of a historic 100th career title after a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6(4) victory over Sebastian Korda in the Miami Open quarterfinals. The Serbian legend, aiming for a record-extending seventh title in Miami, overcame a second-set deficit to prevail, with his powerful serve proving decisive.
Trailing 5-2 in the second set, Djokovic broke back and forced a tiebreak, where he delivered clutch serves, including an ace on match point. His former rival and new coach, Andy Murray, celebrated the win with a triumphant leap from his seat.
“I’ve been serving great the entire tournament, but particularly today I needed it in the second set to come back,” Djokovic told Tennis Channel. He now faces 14th-seeded Grigor Dimitrov in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka stormed into her first Miami Open final with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win over Italy’s Jasmine Paolini. The Belarusian dominated with her power and precision, setting up a title clash against either Danielle Collins or Elena Rybakina.
Elsewhere, unseeded Czech teenager Jakub Mensik continued his impressive run, defeating 17th-seeded Arthur Fils 7-6(5), 6-1 to book a semifinal spot. He awaits the winner of Matteo Berrettini vs. Taylor Fritz, who were set to play later in the evening.
