KOLKATA: The champagnes will continue to remain on ice for Peerless to celebrate its first Calcutta Football League title in its 61-years of existence despite their 2-0 win over George Telegraph on Sunday.
Peerless has one hand on the title and will wait on IFA’s decision on the fate of East Bengal’s match against Calcutta Customs that was washed out due to torrential rain in the city.
If the match is declared abandoned, Peerless will become the new champion of the local league as the Red and Gold side need to win at least by seven goals in their next match.
In another match of the day, former champions Mohun Bagan defeated Kalighat 3-0.
Sk Faiz, Salva Chamorro and Fran Morante scored for the Mariners.
