CALCUTTA (India): Liberian international Ansumana Kromah has signed a contract on Wednesday with East Bengal till May to help the struggling side in the I-League.
The news will certainly regale the hearts of the East Bengal fans, who were left disheartened following the club’s 2-1 defeat against Mohun Bagan last Sunday.
To make matters worse, Spaniard Alejandro Menendez had quit the job as East Bengal head coach on Tuesday.
The New Year turned out to be a disastrous one for East Bengal, who lost to Churchill Brothers away and then against Gokulam Kerala at the Kalyani Stadium before the setback against Bagan.
But with Kromah’s return to East Bengal in what would be his second stint, the management and fans hope the club will return to form.
The 27-year-old top-scored with 14 goals to guide Peerless to their maiden Calcutta Premier League title last season.
Kromah has also represented Mohun Bagan in the I-League, but never got extended contract.
“Both these clubs boasts of a rich history and legacy. I’m very fortunate to have represented them. I just hope and pray that one of them win the I-League this time. It’ll be good for Bengal football,” Kromah had said in an interview with Khel Updates published on October 30, 2019.
The red and gold brigade are currently struggling at the seventh position in I-League with just eight points from seven matches.
