Stuttgart (Germany): Rising star Ansu Fati became Spain’s second youngest ever player on Thursday when he came on as a substitute during his country’s UEFA Nations League clash with Germany.
Barcelona attacker Fati entered the field as a replacement for Jesus Navas just after half-time in Stuttgart aged 17 years and 308 days, just a few days older than Angel Zubieta was when he faced Czechoslovakia for Spain in 1936.
Fati, who was born in Guinea-Bissau, moved to Spain when he was seven and obtained Spanish nationality a year ago, moves into second place ahead of Bojan Kirkic, who made his Spain debut aged 18 years and 13 days in 2008.
He scored eight times in 33 appearances in all competitions for Barca last season, during which he became the Catalan giants’ youngest ever La Liga scorer and youngest player to score in the history of the Champions League.
