DOHA (Qatar): The FIFA Club World Cup will be a ‘golden opportunity to test’ the infrastructure and readiness of Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup in a year’s time, said Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SCDL) CEO Nasser Al Khater.
The FIFA Club World Cup, which begins on February 4 is an important step ahead of the 2022 mega event.
“We’re very pleased to be hosting the FIFA Club World Cup for the second time in February and will ensure it’s delivered in a way that safeguards and prioritises the health and safety of fans, players and officials,” said Al Khater.
“The tournament offers us a golden opportunity to test our stadiums, training sites and infrastructure as we continue to gear up for the FIFA World Cup in 2022.”
The top clubs from five continental confederations, which includes European winners Bayern Munich, will join host nation representatives Al Duhail SC in determining who will be crowned the world’s best.
Auckland City FC, who were nominated to represent the Oceania region at Qatar 2020, withdrew from the competition because of COVID-19 quarantine measures required by authorities in New Zealand.
