DOHA (Qatar): A total of 24 teams from 14 countries will feature in the Doha Beach Volleyball Cup that begins here on Tuesday.
Four pairs will advance to the main draw from the qualification rounds of the event, a part of FIVB World Tour.
The Doha Beach Volleyball Cup is a 1-star men’s-only tournament while the Qatari capital will also host a 4-star men’s and women’s event from March 8-12.
After tomorrow’s qualifiers, the 16-team main draw will begin with pool play on Wednesday.
The top three finishers in each of the four groups will advance to the elimination bracket where two rounds will be played on Thursday.
Friday’s schedule features the semifinal and medal matches.
Eleven of the teams are ranked on the FIVB World Tour list led by Qatar’s Cherif Younousse Samba and Ahmed Tijan.
With three World Tour medals to their credit in 29 FIVB starts together, Cherif and Ahmed are ranked 13th internationally.
The hosts challenge will be led by Cherif Younousse Samba and Ahmed Tijan, one of the eleven teams ranked on the FIVB World Tour computer.
Qatar’s other five pair who will compete are Ziad and Mahmoud , Danny and Nito, Jasim Al Kuwari and Nasser Al Meer, Youssef and Abdullah , a sixth Qatari team, Abdullah Samir and Mubarak Al Kuwari which take part in the preliminary round.
The top event by following all necessary precautionary and preventive measures taken to limit the spread of COVID-19 virus and follow the safe health bubble system in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health.
Teams from Gambia, Morocco, Poland, Turkey, Brazil, Lebanon, Tunisia, Russia, America, Egypt, Oman, Switzerland, Venezuela, and Qatar.
The last World Tour event was played last September in Lithuania where teams from Estonia (Kusti Nolvak Mart Tiisaar) and Italy (Margherita Bianchin/Claudia Scampoli) topped the men’s and women’s podiums, respectively.
