DOHA (Qatar): One of the finest generations of players Honduras has ever produced David Suazo has stressed the ability of his country’s team to qualify for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Speaking to FIFA.com, Suazo said his country’s team is very young and “I know that the coach, Fabian Coito, will do a really good job, because he’s got a very promising squad of players. There are a lot of youngsters but they’ve got quality.”
On preliminary draw for Concacaf World Cup, he said: “The groups look very tight but I think Canada in Group B and Panama in D, are the two sides who definitely won’t have any problems qualifying. Canada are producing young players with big reputations and Panama are coming in after qualifying for Russia 2018, their first ever World Cup. That’s created some big expectations for them. The final eight-team round is going to be a real battle.”
Asked about his favorites to claim Concacaf’s 3.5 qualification places, Suazo said: “These preliminaries will show us what the standard is like in Concacaf. In the end, though, I think Mexico, USA, Honduras and Costa Rica are the favorites to make it to Qatar. It’s going to be tough because it’s a very long road, but I reckon those four teams will be fighting it out for the qualification places. They’ve got the quality to do it.”
