DOHA (Qatar): Asian champions Qatar went down to Ghana 5-1 in an international friendly fixture at the Titanic Stadium in Antalya (Turkey) on Monday.
Two assists from new Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey inspired the African giants to a confident win.
After Almoez Ali cancelled out Tariqe Fosu’s opener for Ghana, the 27-year-old set up goals by Swansea City attacker Andre Ayew and Saudi Arabia-based winger Samuel Owusu.
Substitute Caleb Ekuban was also on the score sheet for the four-time African champions.
It was a good response by Ghana who succumbed to a disappointing 3-0 loss to Mali on Friday.
Qatar enjoyed a fruitful 2019 where they played 20 matches winning 13, drawing two and losing just five including Asian Cup win in UAE.
The games are part of the Black Stars’ preparations for the resumption of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers in November where Ghana face Sudan in a double-header.
Due to Covid-19, both countries haven’t had enough time to prepare for upcoming qualifiers and major tournaments. Therefore, this game presents a good assessment opportunity for the two teams. (Input: Goal.com)
