MUMBAI (India): India U17 women’s coach Thomas Dennerby exuded confidence ahead of the final against Sweden on Thursday in the three-nation U17 Women’s Tournament here.
“We will go for the win against Sweden. No matter who we play, we always strive to win,” said Dennerby.
India sealed their spot in the final with a 1-0 win against Thailand on Tuesday
“It was a crucial win. We deserved it because we played well and created many chances,” added the Swede.
The former Sweden and Nigeria head coach also reserved a special word for goalkeeper Manju Ganjhu.
“Our keeper made crucial saves. We were looking to attack towards the end of the match and Thailand could have scored on the break,” he said.
Sweden had beaten the hosts 3-0 in the tournament-opener.
“Sweden will come out strong but the difference will be that our girls have the first game in mind. Now, they know better how to handle the pressure,” said Dennerby.
“We were a little bit anxious in the first 10 minutes. I hope we can manage them better.”
Team goalkeeper Manju credited coach Precious Dede for guiding her.
“I have learned a lot from Precious ma’am, such as gripping, diving. We are working extremely hard. We will give off our best in the final. We want to keep doing better,” said Manju.
