DOHA (Qatar): Al Sadd’s Salem Al Hajri will be out of action until the end of season following an injury that he sustained during Amir Cup match, the club said on Friday.
Sadd, defeated Al Kharaitiyat 3-1 in the Round of 16 match, qualified for the quarterfinals.
Al Hajri’s initial tests confirmed that he had a cut in the Achilles tendon and underwent successful surgery at the Aspetar Hospital on Friday.
The Qatar international could not complete the match and left the stadium directly to the hospital. The player will miss the remaining of the season, as the Achilles tendon injury requires at least six months of treatment and rehabilitation, which means that Al Hajri’s season has ended.
But the 23-year-old stressed he will return stronger, adding that footballer’s are always exposed to such injuries.
He added that the injury occurred on the field without friction from any Kharaitiyat player.
Al Ahli overcome Qatar SC to enter quarters
Al Ahli defeated Qatar SC 2-1 to book their berth in Amir Cup quarterfinals.
Jouhen Benson opened the scoring for Ahli in the 34th minute with a header only for Sardor Rashidov to equalise in the 64th.
But Mohammed Diame struck in the 88th minute, emerging unmarked inside the box to head home a corner and that proved to be the winner.
In another match, Al Wakra beat Al Shahania 10-9 in a nail-biting tie-breaker to move into the last eight after the regulation time had ended goalless.
